What is Permanent Jewelry?

Permanent jewelry is trending, and now is the time to get on board! These jewelry pieces are meant for long-term wear, and do not have a clasp with which to put them on or remove them. The ends of a piece are instead connected by a small “jump” ring or decorative connector piece, which is welded closed during installation on your wrist, ankle, etc.

Despite the term “permanent,” these pieces can be removed with simple wire cutters or even heavy duty nail clippers and scissors (and can be re-installed for a small fee). Permanent jewelry is a great way to honor the permanence of a friendship, relationship, or family bond, as well as a fun way to treat yourself!

Chain Options

Permanent jewelry can be made in many different chain configurations, types of metals, and metal tones. AsaFox uses ONLY 304 or 316 stainless steel chain options (some chains may contain other decorative materials such as enamel, gemstones, or glass beads/rhinestones). No brass, iron, or sketchy mystery alloys here! Stainless steel is exceptionally durable, and even comes in different metal tones to match your personal style. While we try to offer a variety of options in silver, gold, and rose gold tones, some chain styles may be limited due to supplier availability. Please note that all of our gold and rose gold tone chains are ion plated (IP) with non-precious* gold and rose gold coloring. The IP technique is many times more resistant to fading, chipping, and discoloration than traditional plating methods.

304 and 316 stainless steel are some of the safest metals to put against your skin, and will not cause irritation for most of the population. Variations of stainless steel are often used for surgical implants and instruments, as well as for body piercing jewelry. The grades of stainless steel used for AsaFox permanent jewelry are also not prone to discoloration over time, nor do they tarnish. Your AsaFox permanent jewelry will not require any special care or cleaning, and you can confidently wear it while swimming, showering, etc.! In addition, stainless steel tends to be very reasonably priced. The durability, beauty, and affordability of stainless steel jewelry makes it an ideal choice for your permanent jewelry applications.

Charms and Connectors

Part of the fun of designing your own custom piece of permanent jewelry is choosing one or more add-on charms and connectors to showcase your one-of-a-kind flair! AsaFox offers 304 and 316 stainless steel charms and connectors for lasting beauty and durability, as well as hand made, customized glass and/or genuine gemstone birthstone beaded connectors on stainless steel wire. Charm and connector options vary based on what’s available from our suppliers at any given time. If you see one you like, get it now because we may not be able to source more after what we have on hand is gone!

Charms are connected to your permanent jewelry piece by only one welded “jump” ring point, and hang or dangle from your chain. Connectors are used to join the two ends of a length of chain with a decorative link, and have two welded “jump” ring points. You are welcome to mix and match as many charms and connectors as you’d like for your piece, as each charm and connector is priced individually.

* Select chain, charms, and connectors are available in 14-18 karat gold ion plated stainless steel. Select charms may also include materials such as gemstone/glass beads, glass rhinestones, or colored enamel.

Bring on the Sparks!

Once you’ve designed your bespoke piece using your favorite chain and all the charms and connectors you just HAD to have, it’s time to spark it up! While it can sound concerning, the welding process is quick, safe, and painless.

Your installer will custom size your piece to you, ensuring that you have the opportunity to move around and ask for any necessary adjustments. Next, charm placement will be discussed and any charms you’ve chosen attached to your chain with “jump” rings. Your installer will place a leather shield between your skin and the weld location(s) to protect you from any hot sparks. All “jump” rings are then welded closed for long-term wear using a jewelry welder (you’ll need to look away from the weld location(s) or wear your sunglasses for this part to protect your eyes), which melts the metal of the “jump” ring joint together to form a lasting bond

That’s it! Now you can admire your special piece of permanent jewelry…or get another one installed!
